Will Wenger stall on Fabregas till World Cup starts?

I’ve often said : Arsenal can’t play without Fabregas.

That is still the case.

If Arsenal can’t play without Fabregas it naturally follows that (1)Arsenal can’t win without Fabregas and (2) Arsenal can’t finish Top Four without Fabregas.

But I got that wrong. I made a big mistake there. What I should have said was : Wenger’s Arsenal can’t play without Fabregas.

Right? Wenger’s Arsenal can’t play without Fabregas. That seems to be where we are now.

Fabregas wants to leave and Arsenal want the money. But if Wenger’s Arsenal cannot play without Fabregas, Wenger should walk.

The club need a bold, imaginative manager right now. But they’ve got Wenger for another year.

He should sign four top players and give Arshavin the armband and the Fabregas role.

Will he sell Fabregas now?  Will he sell him on August 31?Will he insist that Fabregas stays and plays for Arsenal?

My guess is that Fabregas will go for £50 million in the next few days.

If David Dein was still at Arsenal, Dein and Wenger could rebuild the team this summer, spending £80 million. Arsenal would become exciting again. Fans would become hopeful again.

As I’ve said before, the players want to win trophies, the fans want to win trophies, but the club want to finish Top Four and keep going as they are and pay off the debt.  Therefore AFC is a dysfunctional operation. It’s programmed to fail. You’re being asked to renew your season tickets  for an operation that is programmed to fail.

I was in the room when Wenger told us : if we had a bigger stadium we would have the money to pay Anelka the same wages as  Real Madrid, so we could keep him happy and keep him at Arsenal.

Historically, Arsenal lacked ambition. It’s in their DNA and that’s still the case. It’s sad, even tragic, that the club find it so hard to face modern realities.

Fabregas has gone ! Accept it and move on. Thank you, Cesc! Next !

The club is bigger than one player. Arsenal is bigger than one player. If Arsenal can’t survive the loss of one player, it’s because the manager has totally bungled the squad. He has kept telling average players that they were good. When, in reality, they were being carried by Cesc Fabregas.

When did I first say that Arsenal can’t play without Fabregas?

I think it was at least four years ago. But I’m not sure.

I said it after this Spurs game in April 2007
