Wenger’s “stability” is what we call Groundhog Day

From David Ball : Groundhog Day

Forget the football, we all knew what was coming. You have to look on this farce in a pure business sense.

Wenger is the architect of all good things at Arsenal but also all the bad things. 20 years of control have left this great club stagnant.

How could he still have Flamini as a player, let alone bring him on against Barca?
How could he still have the treacle like Giroud as the focus of our attack?

Arsenal is a major corporation and should headhunt the best people available.
So Giroud, Flamini, Arteta, Theo are the best available?

In any other business, Wenger would have been shifted on, paid up, moved upstairs or such.

Great players deserve to play with other great players. Ozil and Sanchez have been let down badly by the blinkered Wenger.

Football is not about profits or dividends. It is about winning.

Wenger is fooling himself at the clubs expense.

Myles says:

It’s a one-man club, run by a dictator.

With the CEO working under Wenger.

Historically, Arsenal was always a mean business with little ambition beyond the desire to participate and keep costs low. That’s locked into Arsenal’s DNA: lack of ambition.

David Dein gave the club ambition but he was sacked.

Ownership has changed but the 21st century ArseDisney is a ghastly Amerikan corporation which doesn’t pay the minimum wage to its match day employees. Despite having the biggest match day revenue of any club in the world.

Does Walmart pay the minimum wage in USA? Or do their staff still get food stamps to supplement their “wages”?

Kroenke’s business model is profitable mediocrity. He has no style.

Yes, Arsenal remain one of the top 16 teams in Europe. If they became European Champions, Kroenke would have to play massive bonuses to the players.

Back in 2002 I told gooner Stewart Joseph: “You will never win the Champions League with this manager.”

That was at half-time when Arsenal were 2-0 down and being played off the field by Deportivo La Coruna at Highbury. Since 2002 Wenger’s teams have proved me right every year.

Yes, it is about winning big trophies.

Fortunately, my happiness does not depend on football results.

Last night’s 0-2 was a close contest and I’ll post my detailed thoughts on the game at 10.30 this morning.

PS. I still think Arsenal will beat Man United this weekend.
