Exciting EPL show coming/Arsenal never as ambitious as Red Devils

From Alex : Oh ANR…

Hi Myles,

I haven’t been visiting your site much lately.

This hasn’t been a summer of football for me.

The Euros was a letdown, a bore.

But starting to look forward to the upcoming PL campaign. It’s become quite the circus; a media dream! Pep, Jose, Ibra, Pogba, Leicester..OH MY!

But ANR has become a breeding ground for negativity and cynicism. Maybe there is a lot to be down about, a lot of repetition, a lot of doubts. But it all gets tiring! In a world that is going through upheaval, I would have thought the circus of sport would be a happy welcomed distraction.

I’m excited for the show! We probably won’t win the league, but it is healthier to be hopeful and optimistic. Either way, let the drama unfold!

Any chance we will see a PL prediction from you? It’s pretty hard to call this year, given last year’s result, and the significant changes for this campaign. Feels like a clean slate.

Myles says:

A PL prediction from me?

THAT ARSENAL WON’T FINISH IN THE TOP 3.

Many Euro 2016 games were dull, I know, but I did what I could with it.

Saw some new players I liked, and several games I really enjoyed, especially Croatia 2 Spain 1 and Italy 2 Spain 0 and, especially Wales 3 Belgium 1 in  that thrilling quarter-final.

Glad that Portugal won it, which I didn’t expect.

And I’m still gambling with cash I won on that Italy/Iceland win double.

I knew Italy would win. Knew that England would lose as soon as I saw their team selection, which I slaughtered on ANR the previous day.

From Andy Pinker: Not a serious club

Hey Myles,

The fella who wrote this is spot on.

This season, I will be hoping and praying that we lose every game (except the games against Spurs ).

If relegation is what it takes to get rid of the leaches running our club, bring it on.

I never in my 55 years ever thought such a thing would even enter my head. So well done Kroenke and Wenger.

Hope you and yours are well,
Miami Gooner

Myles says:

Perhaps I should define my terms more often.

Let me correct that: Bayern Munich is a serious club.

Juventus is another serious club and Barcelona is run by a board of educated Catalans who each have specialised skills and qualifications.

Their success is not just because they have Messi. In every department, Barca have what it takes and they update their strategy  to make sure CFB have what it will take in the future.

Manchester United, the most ambitious club in British football,  loses its way from time to time but the club remains very competitive and always reacts to challenges.

The Louis Van Gaal Season was pitiful, a betrayal of everyone who ever supported the Red Devils in the Theatre Of Dreams.

Arsene Wenger and vice-chairman David Dein were the Butch Cassidy and Sundance Kid of European football for some thrilling years of dynamic football and overdue trophies

Then Dein was sacked in 2007 and after that King Arsene reigned alone and all-powerful.

King Arsene has become the most visible superstar in the UK.

He is omnipresent, almost as famous as Beckham

Unfortunately, since the club became a one-man show it’s been far less successful.
