The above video is, for me, the greatest football documentary.
The Two Escobars details the lives of drug bandit Pablo Escobar and the ill-fated Colombian national team defender Andres Escobar.
Their paths were to cross in the build-up to the 1994 World Cup when, let’s not forget, Colombia were one of the favourites as their qualification saw them sweep aside all of the big hitters in South America.
It is a contrasting cross-over of two worlds: football and organised crime on an unprecedented scale.
This is a fantastic watch for all lovers of politics and the beautiful game and the extraordinary circumstances which arose when they were fused together during that fateful period.
The stark relavance to this upcoming World Cup in 2014 is poignantly brought to bear.
