From Haroon : goals conceded from outside the area
Hi Myles,
I’m sure I read somewhere that Peter Cech had not conceded a goal from a shot from outside the penalty in yonks.
Can’t remember if it was in the last 5 years or more.
Either way, by the looks of the second goal I think the Arsenal players also heard that too.
Ox gave it away poorly. OK, give him the benefit of the doubt for arguments sake, but when Zarate had turned and looked up, Ox’s momentum was still carrying him towards the halfway line!
Per and Koscielny made no effort to block the ball, close Zarate down or put pressure on the shot.
Would it have made any effect on Zarate’s scuffed shot? Maybe not.
But Cech would have seen those 3 try and block a shot better than seeing a ball through his defence and may not have been caught off guard.
It was lazy defending.
Not an accident like Wenger said in his post-match comments.
Myles says:
I did not expect Petr Cech to get the kind of protection he got at Chelsea.
He was very well-protected by fierce warriors. By William Gallas and Ricardo Carvalo, by John Terry and Ivanovic, by Makelele and Matic, by many pros who took pride in clean sheets.
Petr Cech saw the number of defenders near Zarate and switched off, as he would have done at Stamford Bridge.
Yes, Chelsea were rubbish last weekend against Swansea. But they scored two jammy goals and scrambled a 2-2 draw.
WENGER SWITCHED OXLADE TO RIGHT BACK!
What a blunder!
We know that he can’t think on his feet but….
