In football, I’m intuitive.
Because I can’t be bothered to trawl through all the stats and the history of previous matches between two clubs.
So I wrote this blog in bed four hours ago.
When it comes to big games I try to feel my way into it.
I don’t ask: When was the last time Manchester United won at Stamford Bridge? I’m much more likely to ask: How do I feel about this game?
Yes, I do know that United haven’t won at Chelsea for six years but that doesn’t mean they can’t win today. The circumstances of every match are different, even if the 22 players are the same.
But if I’m weighed down by all the latest stats, news and gossip, I can’t feel my way into a big game.
This morning at 7.30 I was lying on my back with one leg not under the duvet and thinking: Eden Hazard will take Man United apart today.David Luiz will play a spectacular match – and Kovacic will score!
And then I was thinking : Pogba needs Mbappe today but he was always going to sign for PSG because he’s a Paris boy.
Then Jan rolled over and put her hand on my shoulder.
“Are you thinking of getting up?”
“My left leg is sticking out into Saturday….“
