As the English season heads towards November, Arsenal have won their last six Premier League games.
And nine matches in a row.
So Unai Emery has provided exactly what Arsenal needed :a big culture change.
He’s the demanding new boss their slackadaisical squad badly needed.
Emery has added urgency. He wants them to maintain a tight shape at all times, to be much more compact in defence, and more direct in attack.
Fewer passes, more shots on target. When you lose the ball, be collectively positioned to win it back ASAP.
Lacazette and Aubameyang are sharpshooters who want the ball early, not when they have five bodies between them and the goalkeeper. Like Auba, the Frenchman likes to shoot before the keeper has figured out where the ball is going.
Kasper Schmeichel was born to be Denmark’s keeper and has 42 caps. His dad won 129.
If football is 90% confidence, as I believe, Arsenal should be confident enough to beat Leicester 2-1 tonight.
But let’s not take anything for granted.
Claude Puel is a very savvy and ruthless manager who played for Wenger at Monaco and coached Eden Hazard at Lille.
He’s just signed left back Ben Chilwell to a new five-year contract and has Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans at centreback tonight.
Japanese striker Shinji Okazaki does not feature at all these days.
