Wenger wants Van Bronckhorst, Fowler, Campbell and Toldo

Reading last night’s quotes from Arsene made me laugh, since they came after an afternoon phone call confirming his four main targets

He said,”Campbell is a great player and so is Fowler. evrybody knows I admire them, but it is too early to say whether I will be involved in trying to sign them.

“Let’s get the season finished first and see what we can do in the summer. Money will not be a problem for me – just finding the quality we need to add to what we already have.”

That is what made me laugh.

Money is not a problem because he plans to get Van Bronckhorst and Campbell on free transfers!

I think Sol is too smart to give in to emotional blackmail by his Lillywhite mates. He knows he can handle being booed twice a year. And he knows he does not have to read his hate mail.He has other things to occupy his mind, like playing in the Champions League.

Campbell would be a mug to sign a one-year deal and wait for ENIC to make Spurs great. That will not happen. Be nice if it did, because rivalry is good and a strong Spurs would help Arsenal to be more competitive. But it won’t happen.

Fowler is one of the most gifted British footballers of the last 20 years. He is England’s Puskas. He is as special as Gazza, or will be when he regains the missing 15% of his game. And he cannot regain that 15% on the bench as Michael Owen’s understudy.

A left-footed Dutch technician with tons of experience and a good shot?

Yes please! Giovanni Van Bronckhorst can make misguided, nostalgic fans forget all about the arrogant, temperamental Manu Petit, who was only a great player whne he was tackling.

Date of birth: 5th February 1975. He is 26

I heard Wenger has bid £4 million for Toldo. If Toldo has one year left at Fiorentina, that is plausible.

Maybe Wenger held off signing Dudek from Feyonoord because he thought he could get Toldo, who would have saved Owen’s winning goal on Saturday.

A 0-0 at Newcastle proves the professionalism of the squad. Bouncing back from the bitter disappointment of Cardiff to clinch the automatic Champions League place.
