Time is now, Arsene, says Gary Neville

From Luke Bishop:  a change in perspective

Good Evening, Myles.

Thank God it is over hey?

No matter what you think of him, he has single handedly managed to convince Arsenal and Spurs that FOURTH is a trophy, and more frighteningly and shockingly for me that he has convinced himself!

At the final whistle not only were the fans celebrating like there was a trophy but so was Wenger!

The only sense being spoken was by Gary Neville.

Arsenal now need a total change, a change in their way of thinking, and a change to create a winning mentality, not only among the players, but to instill it in the fans.

It is evident that the current players think  fourth is good enough.

The only way to change this I’m afraid is by changing the manager OR by the current manager bringing in players that are winners, that can change the mentality of the squad.

Unfortunately, Arsene does not have a good track record of doing this.

Gary Neville provides some great perspective that Arsenal’s current trophy drought is but a moment in time.

He went on to say after the game: “They’re celebrating – and rightly so – but let’s not forget they finished fourth. This is Arsenal, who have set a standard in these last 15 years under Arsene Wenger and they’ve now got to go for it. They have got to improve next season.

“They’ve built a football stadium, they’re paying off their debt and they’re nearly there. If they move up now it will look like one of the most magnificent managerial performances when you look back in history. “Half the Arsenal fans are annoyed because they think they should be doing more and should be doing better, but of all the madness and debt that surrounds football, what they have done is absolutely the right thing.

“What they now need to do, having nearly paid off their debt, is they need to go now. I think he knows, Arsene Wenger, that moment is now.”

There is no way Arsene will leave now he’s qualified for the Champions League, the next six weeks will set the stage for the future of Arsenal.

Enjoy your summer, Myles, and thank you for providing a blog that has managed to get me through this season.

Thanks, Luke.

It’s readers like you and the other  voices of the ANR commentariat  who’ve managed to get me through  the  marathon autumn-winter-cold spring of 2012-13.

All week I thought Arsenal and Spurs would both win on a tense final day

But I didn’t think Spurs would take  90 minutes to score against Sunderland.

Wasn’t surprised that  it was Koscielny who got the goal that mattered, volleying in when Mertesacker knocked down a corner in 52. Kos has been good.

Of all the seasons I’ve blogged this one has been the hardest  to do and  I’m hugely dissatisfied with what I’ve been writing in the last 10 months.

I’ve posted 544 pieces here since August 1st.

That’s quite a lot of reading, writing and editing.

What I write is real and sincere.

Whatever I wrote on a particular day, that was the only thing I could have written on that particular day.

That may sound  implausible  & bonkers….  but  it’s true.

I think most of  you know where I’m coming from – and where I’ve been

Oddly enough, I’ve been  thinking deeply about this summer, and last night- in a   moment of illumination-  I scribbled down my  feelings on a magazine.

If those few lines of biro scrawl still  make sense  tomorrow morning, I’ll post them here.
