Manchester City and Chelsea are so patchy.
Chelsea did not play well at the end of last season. Did not play well in a bungled pre-season and lost the Community Shield to Arsenal.
And have not played well through August and September.
So I started to wonder: What if the title race is between Arsenal and Man United?
Is that possible? If it is, which club will be champions in 2016?
On a 35-goal Premier League Saturday, the back-to-form Alexis Sanchez sparked Arsenal’s best victory of the season at Leicester : they won 5-2.
Although Jamie Vardy scored first and Arsenal could have been 3-0 down before Walcott scored.
Man City, who lost 2-1 to West Ham last week, were hammered 4-1 at White Hart Lane.
Without David Silva, Joe Hart and Vincent Kompany, Citeh were abysmal. But since I’d backed Kevin De Bruyne to score, I was more than happy when he did that in 25.
Chelsea look vulnerable in every game and needed late goals by Brazilian subs Ramires and Willian to snatch a 2-2 draw at Newcastle.
I don’t think Chelsea will improve quickly.
At Manchester United, Martial has been transformational.
He’s proved to be the missing link.
Even though nobody knew what they needed, Martial is exactly what they needed,
His style is so efficient that Mata, Rooney & Memphis can play comfortably with him – and off him.
In a few days Martial has made United much more incisive and put them top of the Premier League.
Roll on Sunday and 4pm!
Suddenly Arsenal v Manchester United looks like a very special fixture again.
