Burnley was a one-sided game with one goal.
Arsenal scored after 12 minutes.
Alexis Sanchez wasn’t anywhere near his best. But his hunger got the goal. He had a shot blocked, a second Arsenal shot was blocked, and then another Sanchez shot rebounded to Ramsey, who smashed it into the roof of the net.
Burnley had their moments, a few situations, a half-chance or two.
But the big club beat the small club more easily than the scoreline suggests.
Because Arsenal are in a different league, financially. Seven of their team each cost more than the whole Burnley starting eleven. Burnley are a team of decent journeymen who earned promotion to the Premier League. They didn’t gamble madly, didn’t spend stupidly to stay up.
The way they play is rather too conventional and that’s why they never really looked like scoring on Saturday. They could only create half-chances.
An end-of-season game where teams do just enough to get the result.
Arsenal now have eight straight wins.
QPR v Chelsea was also very tight, although Rangers brought more to the table than Burnley did.
Fabregas scored in 88 after a very scrappy game.
Arsenal v Chelsea is on Sunday, April 26.
