Pogba & Zlatan could be the big beasts of Man Utd-Spurs game on Sunday

Do Spurs have the strongest defence in the Premier League?

I don’t know but they beat Man City 2-0 at White Hart Lane and that was City’s first league defeat.

Some readers don’t like me me talking about gladiators but here’s what I think.

Paul Pogba is a giant gladiator who wants to do big things and provide spectacular moments. That’s my reading of the way he plays now.

Pogba is a new boy in the team and he gives them power, urgency and directness.

Zlatan is another other new boy and Man United looks like his last hurrah.

Against Zorya Luhansk in the Europa Cup last night, United went 1-0 up after Mkhitaryan scooted away from the centre circle to create an one-on-one against the keeper and buried the chance with maximum finesse.

Mkhitaryan knows Odessa and has scored a lot of goals in the Ukraine. He used to play for Shakhtar Donetsk from 2010-13 and scored 38 in 72 for them before being signed up by Borussia Dortmund.

As I say, Pogba is a big beast who brings urgency to a game of football.

He can slow it down but prefers to speed it up. He didn’t think one goal was enough, so he just hooked a first time forward pass that released the six foot five inch gladiator we call Zlatan… and the Swede cruised into the box and scored with aplomb.

Zlatan is super-confident because he’s scored all kinds of goals and been a champion in every league. Played in by Pogba, he wanted to to do justice his mate’s early pass and did so, slotting late and sweetly as he approached the keeper.

Is Zlatan Ibrahimovic the most sure-footed giant centre forward since John  Charles?

(Charles, known as the gentle Giant, was also a brilliant centre half. He was signed by Juventus from Leeds United in 1957. Bobby Robson rated John Charles as one of the greatest footballers who ever lived, up there with Pele, Maradona and George Best.)

Super Sunday’s early game is Man Utd v Spurs.

It might be close and Victor Wanyama might be the only midfield warrior who can contain Paul Pogba.
