I don’t want to over-simplify, or be clever after the event.
But last night’s QF was always gonna come down to Petr Cech v Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Czech Republic set up their team to stop CR and that ploy starved their attack.
As soon as the second half kicked off, Portugal pushed Meireles and Moutinho wider and further forward, and after that they were always going to dominate and win.
In 78, Ronaldo had a diving header from eight yards that bounced down at high velocity and flew up through the gloves of Cech for 1-0.
This description from Rob Hughes in Warsaw.
Gambling John gives me tips, as you know.
John just advised,”Best one tonight is Draw Germany.”
Meaning : Greece to be drawing at half-time, Germans to win second half.
I think : Without Ozil, Germany would be average.
More on that later today, I hope.
