Ozil transfer: the inside story

From Dave McConachie : Adefolahan Oshinloye piece on Ozil

Really enjoyed this piece

However, one correction to his point about why he was sold by Real.

Having spoken to one of Mesut’s best friends, the story behind the move is based on money but not transfer fees.

Real / Ancelotti offered him what he believed to be a derisory wage package (We all know it was a lot of money but as with the Ashley Cole 55k/60k issue… these footballers know their worth) and Ozil decided there and then he wanted out of Real and told his agent to get him to England.

He had no preference for Arsenal, in fact I’m told Utd was his preferred destination but once Wenger got wind of this desire to leave, he was all over it and courted Ozil heavily, eventually convincing him to sign for The Arsenal.

I’m also told that Mourinho was not aware of any of this and when he found out about it he was livid.

Got straight in touch with Ozil asking him why he hadn’t picked up the phone to him as he would have signed him in a heartbeat for Chelsea.

Ozil is not happy at Arsenal from what I hear and I think you can see that in his body language.

I just hope we can find better use for him, as I agree with Ade that he is currently not being given the ‘arrows’ to help him shine.

Myles says:

Arsenal’s off-the-ball movement is not direct enough or explosive enough.

Making 35-yard passes is 60% of Ozil’s game but Arsenal can’t use that skill while the team is bogged down in such predictable short-passing patterns.
