Memo to Ozil’s Arsenal : don’t let Watford do a Swansea

I think most of us agree with Mesut Ozil.

The German playmaker says his team have “screwed up” their Premier League title chances.

Too right.

They’ve screwed up so often that, as April starts, Arsenal are 11 points behind Leicester City.

And that’s not a joke for April 1st.

Indeed, half their fans are wondering whether Arsenal can beat Watford at the Emirates tomorrow. Will we beat a promoted side who are 14th in the table,?

Don’t ask: What if it’s a draw?

Wenger’s stuttering side managed just one league victory in March.

Ozil knows it’s all about winning and controlling your own destiny. He admits, “We did not play to our potential in the games against the so-called smaller teams. You immediately get punished for that in the Premier League.”

Arsenal managed to lose 2-1 at home to Swansea, a smaller club who were 17th at the turn of the year.

Having dropped eight points in three games a month ago, Arsenal now have to pray that Liverpool will beat Spurs tomorrow night, and pray that Ronald Koeman’s highly-organised Southampton are defensively sound enough to shut down Vardy & Mahrez for 94 minutes on Sunday.

That’s a big ask because Leicester have other players who can score.

Ozil admitted all this : ” We have to hope Leicester and Tottenham slip up and then make the most of it. I would be delighted for Wenger if we win the title. He played a major role in my decision to join Arsenal. He was desperate to sign me. Everybody knows he is an extraordinary manager.”

Extraordinary? I’ll agree with Mesut on that.
