Manchester Citeh 5 Monaco 3 ? Great fun but…

A night of spectacular action at the Etihad.

Defences were inferior to the forward lines they faced.

The other R16 game finished Bayer Leverkusen 2 Atletico Madrid 4.

That should mean another QF for Diego Simeone’s team, who may be capable of winning this season’s Champions League.

1-0 : A Sane pass was stabbed home by Sterling in 27.

1-1 : An early cross by Fabinho flighted toward the far post is met by the diving Falcao in 32.

1-2 : The Brazilian right back then released French teenager Mbappe with a ball over the top towards the near post and the kid blasted past Caballero in 41.

It was 1-2 at half-time.

Falcao won a penalty and took it but Caballero saved.

At that point we were watching City being outrun by a younger team.

2-2 : Aguero had a fairly feeble low shot that Croatian keeper Subasic should have saved in 58 but the ball hit his leg and went in!

2-3 : City were suddenly behind again after 61 when Falcao took John Stones apart in the box and, in a moment of sublime improvisation, clipped his shot sweetly over keeper Caballero.

3-3 : Monaco allowed Aguero a free volley from another corner in 71.

4-3 : When Yaya Toure flicked on a corner, Stones stabbed in from two yards in 77.

5-3 : Sane knocked in Aguero’s short  pass in 82.

Let’s hope the second leg is as colourful as this.

Talking about that game on March 15th, Pep Guardiola said, “If we don’t score, we will be eliminated.”

Pep also said, “I would like to see how many teams keep a clean sheet against Monaco.”
