From David : Thanks, Norrie
You nailed it. the club is not serious.
No serious club would start the season with Gabriel as the only “experienced” CB.
No serious club would insult the intelligence of their fans by claiming to be “active” in the transfer market but do nothing while the Manchester clubs as well as Liverpool and Chelsea continue to strengthen.
No serious club would go 12 years without the title and still claim progress.
The agony comes from the lack of ambition when the addition of two or three players could make a difference. This has been the case for a long time but with the stadium built and accounts made public, fans know their are resources that are not spent. If you accept the target is 4th then the agony subsides. Somewhat.
The club lost their bet on FFP and with TV money rolling in we now have four or five clubs to compete with.not just one or two and that’s just in the league. Players that the club would have snapped up 10 years ago now go to the highest bidder. He balks at the “craziness” of the market but decided against Xavi Alonso over 500k and bid 40 million + 1 pound for Suarez.
The post-Dein football side of the club is hesitant, passive and chronically unambitious.
Meanwhile the corporate machine gradually destroys the values upon which this great club was built. The spin doctor doesn’t even bother to find new spin any more.
As the pattern continues it becomes harder to recruit as exciting and ambitious players don’t want to read the same novel every season.
Nor do we. The club have a responsibility to excite, entertain and inspire. New faces energize the training ground, not just the stadium. Oh, and the commercial department get to sell some more shirts and might even bag a new corporate sponsor or two…..
