From Brendan : Jammy Arsenal
Hi Myles,
Yeah, it’s probably right that Arsenal were jammy against Burnley.
Not that it would have changed the result, but I would have said that Vokes’s elbow on Mustafi should have resulted in a three-game ban, so when we won the game, I felt it was vindication. But after the event, yes, I see that it was fortunate.
What I thought was that when a team sets out like that, it seems that Arsenal, while trying to grind them down, get ground down themselves. Almost as if the process of trying to pass through the team sends the Arsenal players half to sleep.
Watching it me and my mates thought that the Ox was the right substitute to make, and indeed it proved so, although obviously it was a bit of a raggedy kind of outcome. Potentially no less important, though.
What’s the lesson? We have done really well with Sanchez as the penetrative and dynamic frontman, allowing the midfield to come in more and get more chances. But it won’t work every time, and particularly not against a team which sets up like Burnley did (well we beat them, but under pretty fortunate circumstances).
We don’t have the option of Welbeck up front so is it worth giving Giroud a chance with his aerial prowess? If it gets us a win, it is.
Enjoying the coverage this season.

You are my compass, Brendan.
If I listen to you, I won’t get lost as often
OK, we have disagreed on some things.
But that’s alright.
