Jack Wilshere isn’t the next Gareth Barry, Fabio

Jack Wilshere makes his first England start in a friendly in Copenhagen tonight.

International football?

Denmark v England?

Do we care any more after such a lousy World Cup?

Clearly, Jack should not become Pirlo till he’s 28.

By 2013 or sooner, I’d like to see Jack scoring the kind of goal that Raul Mereiles scored to beat Chelsea on Sunday : running into the box to anticipate a cross, jumping a yard off the ground, and whacking in a flawless left-foot volley.

He’s a quick-thinking playmaker who can pass and move more naturally than any English teenager since Alan Hudson and Capello is correct to note how much Jack has improved recently. We’ve all seen that.

Capello says, “Even in five months he’s improved a lot, Now he needs to gain experience in big games, like in the Champions League and in the matches against the other four in England. That will give him an important experience. But he’s 19. I remember the best players that I managed – Baresi, Maldini, Raúl – and they started really young. It’s their talent. You have to wait now and let him improve more.”

The Arsenal youngster is  fun to watch and the  main reason I will be tuning in tonight.

However,  Wilshere will be wasted in an anchor role.

England’s three  real talents  are Ashley Cole, Wayne Rooney and Wilshere, so the format should be one that gets the best out of those three. Capello is hugely overpaid to develop that format and tonight should be the beginning of that process.

Frank Lampard is captain tonight.

Just hope that  Jack doesn\’t get tapped up by Wayne.

Germany to beat Italy? I think so.

Messi and Ronaldo playing for Argentina and Portugal in Geneva ?

France v Brazil in Paris?

Iran v Russia kicks off at 4pm.

We won\’t see any great games but it\’s just possible we might see a few  good goals.
