Southampton 0 Arsenal 2
Sanchez 59 Giroud 82
I was watching a good stream of the game but the first half was so tedious that a call from my hilarious daughter was a welcome interruption. By the time I handed the babe over to her mother, half-time had arrived – and I didn’t go back to the match.
Didn’t see the highlights on Sky till the following day.
The first goal came when six good passes, two of them by Ozil, led to a world class finish by Arsenal’s sparkiest warrior.
The second was nicely made and finished.
If Sanchez leaves, Arsenal will not be top four or anywhere near it.
They can win games without Koscielny but not without Sanchez.
My conclusions on this game?
3-4-3 has worked because Rob Holding was ready.
And the system switch came just in time.
Claude Puel is an astute coach but his present team lacks firepower and maturity.
His best player is Virgil van Dijk but the captain has been out since January with an ankle injury.
The explosive Sadio Mane, who scored a hat-trick against Manchester City last May, was sold to Liverpool.
Midfield powerhouse Victor Wanyama joined Spurs, while six foot four inch striker Graziano Pelle joined a Chinese club on a massive contract.
