Henry and van Persie to stay long term/ Cregg/ Emirates Stadium

Seems like the Daily Mirror story about Laporte and Henry talking regularly on the phone, catalysed the excision of the ‘cancer eating away at the club’.

Thierry Henry says he’s committing his future to Arsenal.

“The truth is I love this club and I’ve made my mind up to stay. I can say to all my fans and the people who care about me I want to lead the team out in the new stadium,” he told the Sun.

“I’ll talk to (manager) Arsene Wenger, to (vice-chairman) David Dein and the board and talk of the future. My mind is to stay and we have to sort this out.”

“There was a lot of ridiculous speculation. But the truth is this, I never spoke with or met with a single person from any other club at any time. This will put an end to all the stories. We can move on.”

Henry admitted he was tempted to leave in the wake of fellow Frenchman Patrick Vieira’s exit last summer, saying: “I’m still only 28. But when I see the fans and the way they talk to me, it helped make my decision. They didn’t boo me or make life difficult for me on the pitch.”

Robin van Persie has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal that will commit him to the club until 2011.

“I’ve been here for 18 months, really enjoyed it and it was never a financial thing so I sorted out the new contract in about two or three days. I am really happy to be moving to the new stadium next season and it’s something that I want to be part of,” he told the BBC.

Van Persie has scored 19 goals in 64 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Feyenoord in May 2004, although half his appearances have come as a substitute.

Falkirk, meanwhile have signed up Arsenal midfielder Patrick Cregg who made three appearances in the Highbury first-team on an 18 month deal.

According to The Guardian’s web gossip Bolton’s Jussi Jaaskelainen is about to sign for either Arsenal or Middlesbrough. But goalie talk has been rubbished by Wenger.

The Times reports around 40 fans have taken up holiday homes in the Arsenal property development in Spain – the Pueblo Real Golf complex in the Costa del Sol where Antonio Reyes has bought a place.

It also says 1000 Club Level seats are still available for Ashburton at £3000 each season. The 40 have a choice of free legal fees or a Club Level Season ticket.

And Arsenal attendances are up for home games due to discounted release of restricted-view seats in the 38,500-seat stadium.
