Fabregas plays at 5pm on ESPN

Spain play South Korea in a warm-up in South Africa tonight.

Cesc Fabregas will start.

It’s his first game since cracking a fibula in the 2-2 against Barcelona.

Date : Wednesday, March 31.

In other words, Fabregas had not played a game of football for  nine weeks.

It’s a big moment for him. He’s a marvellous character and I hope he has a fabulous World Cup. I think Fabregas will score a goal, maybe two. If so, his price will go up from the £33m that Arsenal turned down yesterday.

This morning, on Sky Sports News, the newspaper stories were  summarised by Mick Dennis of The Daily Express, one of the good guys of football reporting.

Talking about England’s bid to host 2018, Mick said the vote is in December and the 24-man voting committee will be in South Africa while England are there. Our theme is : The world is invited. The world is already here.

That is  undeniable. The EPL is sending more footballers to this World Cup than Serie A. Liverpool have 12 players there, Chelsea 14.

Mick Dennis  recalled Sven-Goran Eriksson’s last words to the English hacks.

When England left Germany, our reporters gathered round the Swede and Sven’s  final words to them were, “Look after Wayne Rooney.”
