Bearded Fabregas comes back for an hour

Will Fabregas keep that beard for the World Cup?

Or until  he signs for Barcelona?

I detest  transfer sagas because they’re not exciting. They’re the opposite of exciting.

Barcelona bid £33m for Fabregas on June 1st, the first day of the summer transfer window.

That day is the deadline for Arsenal’s season ticket renewals.

Obviously, Arsenal can’t sell Fabregas that day.

They have to put out a statement to appease Gooners. Which was : He’s not for sale, we refuse to negotiate.

Comeback news : Fabregas looked good last night against energetic South Korea.

He hit the bar in 35 from 18 yards and  played an hour.

Wiry winger Jesus Navas scored the only goal with a terrific shot from 25 yards. That was in 85 minutes.

Teams fear Spain, so all their games will be tight. Therefore they will need game-breakers like Navas.

A good work-out for Spain, I thought.

Spain’s first game is the last of the  opening 16 games.

They play Switzerland in Durban on Wednesday June 16, when South Africa play their second game against Uruguay.

My favourite World Cup player is Fernando Torres.

Nando, as his pals call him, did not play last night and will not play before the Switzerland game 12 days from now. Del Bosque has said that.

I love Luis Fabiano for Brazil, a rugged centre forward who scores when it matters. I love Rooney, as you know by now.

But Fernando Torres is a  truly  awesome footballer and I’m worried about his fitness.

Kenny Dalglish is leading the search for Liverpool’s new manager.

Rafa the tinkering money-waster  has gone with a £3m golden handshake and £3m more to come  later.  If the ghastly Yank owners had paid off his contract in full they would have had to give him £16 million !

In six years Rafa Benitez spent £266m and only signed four  top players : Torres, Reina, Xabi Alonso and Mascherano.

Many blame David Moores for selling the club to the Yanks. But I blame Rick Parry, who could  have sold it to the Saudis.  It looked as if Parry  did not do that because the Saudis did not guarantee to keep him on as MD. The Yanks kept him on, so they got the club and wrecked it. Very, very sad. Not so long ago Liverpool was one  of the  world’s greatest football clubs.

What sane coach would want to work for cowboys like Hicks and Gillett? Another saga starts. Boring.
