I was dismayed to read in the Telegraph online that, “Bernie Ecclestone, the Formula One commercial rights holder, last night emerged as a rival to American billionaire Stan Kroenke to win control of Arsenal.”
With no shares? The guy doesn’t have one share ! Would David Dein sell his shares to Ecclestone? Would Kroenke sell his 12 % to Ecclestone?
If you wanted to buy a Premiership club, would you announce in it a newspaper on Saturday morning?
That story looked like complete bollocks.
But Reuters followed quickly with quotes from Ecclestone at the European Grand Prix in Nurburgring.
He said, “I don’t know too much about that, actually. It’s good if somebody is saying that, because maybe I will be approached and maybe it will be cheap. I’ll buy anything if it’s cheap enough. If somebody offers me something that I think is good value, I’ll have a go.”
The F1 mogul confirmed that his son is dating David Dein’s daughter Tamara.
“I talked to David obviously when they chucked him out, which I thought was a bit unnecessary,”
Having read those comments, it’s rubbish. It won’t happen. Thankfully.Would you want Bernie Ecclestone within 1,000 miles of your football club ?
