The Kroenke takeover story became too hysterical today, Friday.
The hysteria reached fever pitch after the morning’s tabloid headlines, which ANR reported earlier.
Sky Sports News is saying that a takeover could happen “within days”.
I doubt that very much. We won’t see a hostile bid within days but we might see an agreement in the next couple of weeks.
Still, the Sky News website went even further at 2.3opm, claiming that,
US property tycoon Stan Kroenke has teamed up with former vice-chairman David Dein and will make an offer within days, our sources say.The 59-year-old US billionaire is known to have been interested in launching a £650m bid to for the club for some time.
He already owns more than 12% of the club.
Recent media speculation may well have brought forward the timing of an offer.
As I’ve been saying, investment bankers work round the clock, grafting through the weekend, having food and drink sent in as they hammer big deals together.
Is that happening right now? Probably. But we may never know.
However, the Arsenal share price has not moved all day.
Since KSE is a well-oiled machine, and since the execs of Kroenke Sports Enterprises rarely say anything, when they do talk, the TIMING is as important as what they say.
You have to think : Why now?
That’s the first thing that reporters and fans have to consider : Why have they said something now?
Secondly, the scale of Kroenke’s wealth will be more than is in the public domain.
It’s commonly written that Stan is worth $1.7 billion, his wife Ann is worth $3 million, and her sister Nancy is worth £2.5 billion.
But that’s just the money they want you to know about.
In 2005 there were 41 female billionaires in the USA and four of them were Waltons.
Obviously, you could write a book about the way the Waltons built up their business, and some people already have, but I’m not gonna go there because Stan Kroenke is not Wal-Mart and does not operate in the same way.
It will be interesting to see what the Sunday papers say about this deal. Maybe they will figure out the key to the financing.
If they don’t, the answer will be on ANR on Monday morning.
