ANR reply from Nigel Keng : Wages and success

Regarding Lawrence’s post, I wish it was true but you can’t cheat statistics

I admire the optimism and hope he’s right. And he’s probably right about the correlation between wages and success. However, if you take Theo Walcott and pay him the same wages as Lionel Messi, this doesn’t make him as good as Lionel Messi. Just means you’re paying Theo more than he’s worth!

You can’t cheat the laws of statistics by paying average players superstar wages!
I haven’t read “Why England Lose” but I’m pretty sure that all involved in the England set up especially the players are pretty well paid, certainly better than Uruguay, so I guess this proves my point?

Paying average players the same wages as a great players doesn’t make them great!

Myles replies :

Fabregas is sick of playing with average players and muppets.  I’m sick of watching average players. Cesc agrees with Myles. He agrees with me. That is why he wants to leave.

Paying £60,000 a week to medicore players means that they will never ask for a transfer. Wenger wants loyalty and stability. So he sits his babies on a big fat cushion of money and they gurgle happily.

If the stadium remains full, he’ll be there till he’s 87. And Fabianski will be the goalkeeping coach. And Ivan will still be talking about “a sustainable model”.
