Carlos Tevez/Newcastle v Arsenal

From Andrew :Re: Arsenal future

Thanks for publishing that one, Myles.

You’re not wrong about Tevez’s ability.

I was in Buenos Aires for the first time back in 2003 when I saw the little Tevez score the winner in a 1-0 win over Colon for Boca. It was pouring with rain but it didn’t stop the locals from singing and jumping such that the stands moved under your feet!

Being young and naive I spent half an hour in their club shop (downstairs in someone’s house) after the game. It was dead outside the stadium afterwards and at night, so a concerned fireman insisted on taking us to our hotel in case we were robbed!

On another visit to BA, I was staying in the Boca hotel by chance. Met Riquelme and a few others. Martin Palermo was a giant – had a picture with him and fitted beneath his armpit!

Buenos Aires used to be an amazing place.

If you have ever been, you will know what I mean. Not sure these days with that crazy woman in charge though. Can’t recommend it unless you speak Spanish or are with someone who does.

The atmosphere in Boca is unrivalled and I have been to games in Spain, Brazil, Chile (where only Colo Colo vs. Universidad de Chile comes close but is not for the faint hearted!).

Anyway I digress.

Fingers crossed we can beat Newcastle.

Myles says:

When Alan Pardew was at West Ham in 2006, both managers were in the technical area at the end when Hammers won 1-0.

He  dived at Wenger with his finger up and said something nasty.

I was told this week that Pardew said, “That goal was scored by an English player!”

No love lost there.

From  John Webster: Pardew

Dear Myles,

You are quite right regarding Pardew’s crass behaviour at Upton Park against Arsenal in November 2006.

Sheringham had crossed to Marlon Harewood to score, Pardew got in Wenger’s face and said “Made in England!”.

I wonder if the irony is lost on him now that he oversees what he would have called, back in 2006, a “French Team” .

That is the label he gave Arsenal in the build-up to that game.
