A bloke who happens to share my surname who also happens to be Head of Press for Liverpool Football Club may well have confirmed to me that Alonso was set for Arsenal last August.

But it’s history now.
However, I accept that some footballer reporters talk to agents every day AND that the Echo reporter probably talked to Alonso’s agent several times a day during the period we are discussing
