From William : Re Nigel Bidmead
“Our 20-year-old goalkeeper makes a last-minute mistake in a cup final”.
Isn’t that a recurring theme with the new Arsenal? A few years back it was Gibbs silencing the Emirates faithful just minutes into the Champions League game against Manchester United.
Bottom-line, we lack defensive discipline, character and experience.
“Souness calls the best club side he has ever seen; despite another individual error and a moment of ridiculous refereeing we are within a decent first touch of reaching the Champions League quarter finals”.
That’s the problem we keep harping on. ERRORS! Individual errors!!
We get to see them every game with our only saving grace being who the opposition is at the time.
As for ridiculous refereeing, well, we are not the only team to suffer that at the Nou Camp especially. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t go down without a fight. It doesn’t stop Bendtner from giving us our first shot on target (or possible goal) when the opportunity presented itself.
A Wiltord would have done better. The Arsenal team of yesteryears have played with 9 men and didn’t lose. Yet the modern day Arsenal loses a man and surrenders a four-goal lead. “Which English team has better prospects than Arsenal?”.
Let’s put it another way, how is Arsenal doing better than other English teams? Gate tickets aside, what’s our revenue like compared to other teams?
Not much difference if you ask me.
“Manchester United with their debilitating debt and ageing manager?”
That aging manager has been outwitting our “non-ageing” manager a lot in recent times – to the extent that the ageing manager doesn’t see a need for the mind games anymore.
“Or Chelsea with a village idiot for an owner and a squad that needs overhauling?”.
Hehehe. Over half of our team wouldn’t get a game in that ageing squad as we speak. And seeing as we are in our annual burst period, that squad that needs overhauling might just overhaul us and finish the season above us.
Good for you not wanting to call for the manager’s head but I’d like to remind you of the Burke saying “a state without a means of some change is without a means of its conservation”.
There comes a time where a change is needed to rejuvenate things that have gone stale.
A man’s biggest problem is to think he has no problem and is wondering why people think he has got problems. We can’t keep on doing things the same way and expecting a different result when others are looking to adapt.
You can bet that I’ll be a proud gooner should we lift the Premier League trophy this season.
But I won’t hold my breath.
For me it’s a case of same scenes, different season.
