Wenger’s absence explained at last : he was up north signing a goalkeeper

Arsene Wenger missed training last Tuesday and nobody knew where he was.

An ANR reader has solved that little mystery.

Wenger was in Stoke signing a 15-year old goalkeeper that Real Madrid wanted.

We do not know the lad’s name.

The nation’s hot-shot football reporters should be able to find that out after they read ANR.

Apparently, Real Madrid had offered £1.2 million for the boy but Wenger went the family’s house and signed him for £680,000.

A photo was taken of this happy occasion but it’s a photo we may never see.

His Mum has said that nobody is now allowed to sit in the armchair that Wenger used.

Tony Pulis had tried very hard to persuade the player to stay at Stoke

Let’s hope the lad is as good as Aaron Ramsey. Let’s hope he’s as good as Peter Schmeichel !

Stoke play Arsenal in the FA Cup 4th Round tomorrow and that makes this transfer a tiny bit weird.

But I don’t think it’s embarrassing for Stoke.

Friends, don’t call to ask for more details because (1) I don’t know any more than I’ve written today and (2) I won’t be here.

I’ll be back in London tomorrow.
