From Ryan Pallett : paying off the stadium
Hi Myles,
Big fan of your blog.
I have a more positive view of your assertion that Arsenal are just a vehicle to sell players and pay off the stadium.
Maybe I’m delusional, but I believe Wenger wants to win trophies too.
But I think he knows that right now, the market is over-inflated because of Chelsea and City spending.
I think Wenger knows he can’t compete in the player market, so he is focusing on paying off the stadium quickly. There is an end to his means though. Wenger will pay off the stadium in about 4 or 5 years.
After that, Arsenal will have all that money generated to be able to spend on players.
And will compete on a more level field with City and Chelsea (especially if financial fair play takes hold).
Sometimes it’s best to fold your cards, limit your losses, and then, wait until the cards give you the advantage.
Myles says :
A novel theory, young man, and maybe a perceptive one.
But, just like the strategic genius you admire so much, you’re selling the future.
While believing that the market will not be over-inflated in 2016 and 2017.
That’s a big guess.
