Wenger, Conte and Pochettino are playing a long game

It’s always a tough season of 55 or 60 games.

So you need to use your squad judiciously.

What happens in March-April-May is more important than what happens in September. The good teams are still in contention then, while others have already stuttered and fallen away.

Although fourth is a trophy for some managers.

Granit Xhaka catches the eye with 25-yard shots that flash into the net.

But, interestingly, Wenger has referred to him as a box-to-box midfielder.

For me that means Xhaka will make some long sprints to score from inside the box.

He’s a powerhouse and next year he’ll score some Bryan Robson goals by getting on the end of crosses, knockdowns and flicks

As the season evolves, we’ll see what happens. We know that as games become more important, more season-defining, they often get tighter & cagier. If you can win by one goal, you’re ecstatic.

Antonio Conte played 3-5-2 with Juventus and Italy.

He’s itching to do that at Chelsea but he can’t try it yet.

Chelsea need one more body in midfield and more power on the flanks. They need a centreback who can bring the ball into centrefield and make the  play and join in.

Let’s wait and see what happens when the Chelsea back three is Ivanovic-Luiz-Terry.

I’m backing Cesc Fabregas to come back and get goals from that middle five.

Fabregas has special qualities. He’s not finished yet.

The Tottenham Project is a long-term one.

The squad is still young that’s why Pochettino is extending the contracts of all his best players.

After Xmas, I expect Eriksen to be starting every game and controlling the attacks.

Dembele, just back, has been badly missed. A very under-rated half back, left footed-like Xhaka.

Last week I worried all day that Spurs would struggle at Wembley and lose to Monaco. And they did.

Danny Rose is half the team in some games and they’re really missing him.

Rose a piston in Mauricio’s machine.

Pochettino now has a bigger squad with more firepower.

They haven’t scored a lot of goals yet, it’s true. But I think Spurs will start to click in October when Kane & Alli, the bang-bang twins, blow a few teams away.
