Patrick Vieira has apologised to several team-mates, saying the remarks he made were out of context.
According to the Evening Standard, it may not be enough to heal the rift between the player and the club.
The paper speculates that if Vieira does leave that Arsenal could make a renewed bid for Michael Carrick, in the region of £15m. An earlier bid was rejected out of hand.
The Standard also reckon Arsene Wenger will sign the lucrative two year extension to his contract, keeping him at Highbury until 2003. The contractual period started yesterday.
Richard Wright is set to sign a five year contract on Wednesday, subject to a medical.
Arsenal are still in the race for Sol Campbell, although Inter are currently favourites, with Barcelona and Bayern reported as saying that he is too expensive.
If he doesn’t choose to stay in London, Arsenal are said to be focusing on Kevin Hofland who plays for PSV Eindhoven.
