To win the title, Arsenal need one of top managers in the Premier League

From Andy Scarlett :

Hi Myles,

Always been a big fan of Wenger.

Thought he revolutionised Arsenal & English football in the early years & his contribution should never be overlooked. I felt sorry for him overseeing the move from Highbury to the Emirates & the restrictions placed upon him.

Obviously when Chelsea & Man City came to the fore with their Mega riches he was never able to compete on transfers. Lots of players I’m sure he would have loved to buy such as Drogba went to the Oil clubs.

If that had not happened, he would still just have to compete with Man U & I believe would have won more titles. I always maintain that in this time he performed to an acceptable level under restrictions.

However now here we are in the present day & FFP doesn’t seem to have the impact Wenger expected & he is now seriously underperforming. clubs with smaller budgets like Liverpool & Spurs have now improved & gone past & he doesn’t seem to have learnt from his mistakes.
Top and bottom of it is I think the Premier League has become a lot harder & you have better managers now than ever here competing for honours.

Gone are the days when you could say Fergie & Wenger are the best 2 managers in the league, times have moved on & Wenger hasn’t.
Ask yourself this question, Is Arsene even one of the Top 6 managers in the Country now?

Conte, Pep, Klopp, Poch, Jose (Although I cannot stand him, you cannot doubt he’s a winner & a successful short term solution) in my opinion are all younger & now better prepared than Wenger for the Modern Game. Okay that’s 5 so maybe he comes in at number 6? Although I guess arguments can be made for Koeman & possibly others?

I would have loved either Pep or Klopp at Arsenal a couple of years ago but unfortunately it didn’t happen.

To be a top club in Europe or domestically you really need one of the top managers in the Country.

The question that really needs answering is have Arsenal got that anymore?

Myles says:

Obviously not.

Forget Oxy & Mustafi. Who cares?

The biggest news is that Sky Sports have decided that Wenger is finished.

That was the piece I planned to write today.

Reader Ian Pollock adds:

Andy Scarlett “….Obviously when Chelsea & Man City came to the fore with their Mega riches he was never able to compete on transfers. Lots of players I’m sure he would have loved to buy such as Drogba went to the Oil clubs.

That is too simplistic and easy to use as an excuse

That may be part of the story…but then how did Leicester win the PL ?

Not sure anyone can really answer that……I can’t

How did Conte with a main core of only 13 or 14 players take a team that had finished 10th in previous season, and win the PL without spending much in the transfer market?

That one is easier to answer.

Great coaching and LOTS of hard work

Man City have spent MEGA Bucks, but I don’t think that will guarantee the title

I would ask you to print this in reply to Mr Scarlett but I very much doubt you will.
