From William Marshall : Vintage season ahead – I don’t think so
Hi Myles,
There was only one consistent full blooded team last season- and a threequarters team – Leicester & Spurs. I don’t think either will emulate last season.
I don’t regard Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd as teams, they’re all a bit half- arsed for one reason or another.
Plus West Ham have a new stadium to contend with.
So it might be another exciting episode in line with the recent comedy of errors trend.
An elite bunch of managers with second and third tier European sides to knock into shape.
How will Klopp, Guardiola, Mourinho and Conte cope?
Koeman, Bilic and Pochettino are still up and coming.
Ranieri couldn’t keep Kante, maybe not Mahrez – not his fault.
Myles says:
You got there before me, William.
I was just thinking that even Pep can’t transform Citeh overnight. Nobody can.
Ronald Koeman has worked in the EPL, that will help him in his next 3 months at Everton.
Always remember that football teams can only be improved incrementally, and by the passionate work of 30 people over several months.
But, yes, this season will be fascinating, right from the first day : Arsene FC v Klopperpool is huge.
Until then, it’s all training.
Pre-season games are part of training and I rarely comment on them.
The big kick-off is still 7 days away and there may be a surprise team in the pack.
One of the Big Five might hit the ground running and build a good lead at the top of the table.
It’s not impossible.
Back in 2013, Aaron Ramsey scored almost as many goals as Luis Suarez and Arsenal were top after 13 games and four points ahead of Chelsea.
