Swansea have two strikers, Arsenal none

This Premier League will be quite interesting in September,

Chelsea are 13th today.

Spurs are 16th.
Swansea are 4th and Leicester 3rd.

CRYSTAL PALACE are 2nd.

Manchester United (5th), Arsenal (6th) and Liverpool (7th) are all on 7 points.

At Newcastle, Theo Walcott started and proved he is NOT a centre forward.

We knew that anyway.

If Walcott was a centre forward, Wenger would have played him there five years ago.

Giroud came on and proved he isn’t either.

Walcott is half a striker. And Giroud is half a striker. We’ve known that for a long time too.

Against Liverpool, he took off Giroud and put on Walcott.

At Newcastle, he took Walcott off and put on Giroud.

How did Arsenal win at Newcastle?

By playing against 10 men after Mitrovic made a clumsy lunge at Coquelin in 16 minutes.

Ref Andre Marriner deemed it a straight red card.  Thought that was very harsh. Saw far nastier incidents in this weekend’s matches.

Score was 0-0 at half-time.

Then Krul saved a thunderous shot by Ramsey the rebound went to Oxlade, whose shot was going wide but clipped the ankle of Collocini and went in

52 MINUTES : 0-1 to the Arsenal.

I’m not a stats man. Reckon a lot of stats are misleading. So I’ll let you draw your own conclusions :

In 4 PL games so far, Arsenal have had 54 shots and scored three goals.

Two of those were own-goals.

Today Man United looked precise  and robotic at Swansea in the 4pm kick-off and at 5pm the score was still  0-0.

After 48, Luke Shaw broke down the left and his cross bounced twice before reaching the far post, where Mata scored.

But I immediately thought: It’s not over!

Swansea won 2-1 because they had two strikers.

Montereo was out, so Routlege played on the left and Ki replaced him in 58.

Immediately, in 61, Ayew scored with a  bouncing header from Sigurdsson’s cross

Another incisive, fast attack was launched by Swansea down the right and the brilliant Ayew played a left-footed Messipass forward into the box for the sharp-moving Gomis  to slot low past keeper Romero.

2-1 to Swansea.

Andre Ayew,25, scored one goal and made the other.

Gomis has scored a goal in each of his four games.

He ‘s a centre forward who does a lot of the old-school things that footballers did between 1950 and 2000.

Swansea boss Garry Monk isn’t a snob who wants to re-invent the wheel to show us how clever he is.

His success, and Swansea’s, demonstrates what a good coach can do in a well-run football club that tries hard to punch above its weight and gives itself the equipment to do so.

BTW, Monk says Gomis is not for sale.

That suggests that the manager is in charge of who stays at the club and who goes.

End of.
