Sol & Senderos are not Butch & Sundance

WHEN IS KOLO coming back from Egypt?

Campbell and Senderos both play left centreback and their incompatibility is something Stevie Wonder could see.

At Bolton, Campbell, Henry and Lauren will not play, as they have hamstring injuries.

The good news is that Arsene has signed an experienced defender.

His name is Martin Keown and he has been coaching at Colney for several months.

In other good news, he has a fantastic new right back in Kerrea Gilbert.

Gilbert is quick, agile, tough and passes well.

A natural defender, he has played in Steve Bould’s academy team, so he has been schooled in no-nonsense defending.

Gilbert is not just useful, not just promising.

He can do the job now. He is the real deal. It’s just a shame that he’s coming into an unstable team which has become an audition, with new faces every week and no partnerships developing.

Gilbert passed the audition to get into the team, then finds that the team is an ongoing audition. That is hard on the boy.

That is cruel and the Reebok could be crueler.

Football is a game of partnerships and sequences. With different players in every game, no wonder Arsenal cannot defend.

Gilbert is English, which is a shock. Arsene does not trust the lifestyle of English players, having been let down so many times in the past, so it’s now up to Gilbert to live a professional life.

If Kerrea Gilbert has the right friends and the right advice he could play 400 games for Arsenal. If he has the wrong friends and the wrong advice, he could play 14 games.

WIGAN BOSS Paul Jewell was Sky’s guest for last night’s Man United-Blackburn semi-final second leg.

He said Sir Alex had phoned him before Wigan’s second leg.

Jewell :”He’s a top manager. He called me on Sunday and told me how to beat Arsenal.”

Presenter (surprised) : “What did he say?”

Jewell (grinning) : “I can’t tell you that.”
