Slow-motion train crash/Why Cazorla?/ gazumping

From Steve Gorac: great piece

Nice to read about football.

Not this horrible slow-motion train wreck that is Arsenal.

In terms of you stopping writing, my suggestion is we don’t need to hear more about Wenger or his Arsenal.

Why not open up our eyes to literature, music, your screenplays etc etc?

There is a wonderfully fulfilling world that exists beyond the angst that is Arsenal.

You created this following and it would be harsh to ditch writing for us completely.

My opinion: beyond speculation and hope, we come to your site for your style of writing/telling things as you perceive them to be…

From Raj Sewnthilnathan

Your blogs are always good to read and I often agree with what you are saying about Arsenal. I don’t disagree for 1 minute that everyone is now saying what you said years ago but this is ARSENAL News Review.
The people who read your site are Arsenal fans like me and we want to read what you have to say about Arsenal.
If I want to read about Pelligrini I’d go elsewhere.
Keep up the good work though.

Morning Myles,

I’m sure you have seen this by now but very interesting reading.

From Max Tilley :surprise attack
Hi Myles,
Thank you so much for your endeavours over the multitude of past years.
It must have been such a labour of love to commit yourself to producing such a wonderful website.
A place where us gooners have been able to vent, be proud and be humble, and for you to be able to impart your wisdom.  If you do give it up you will be sorely missed.
From Rehan Ashraf : no more excuses
Dear Myles,

There comes a point where enough is enough.

Granted, the ref was abysmal yesterday, but why send in Cazorla given his plane came back late and not Podolski?

We had the previous 10 weeks to buy suitable players, increase the opening bids or move on to alternatives.

Instead we hear that RM wanted 25m for Higuain and we only offered 23m. Then Napoli moved in. Lets not forget that Fellaini is on 75k and we offered him 70k. If he really wanted Suarez, then offer close to 50m as soon as his contract issue was made clear.

Wenger decides what value we pay in transfers and wages, yet he also fleeces top dollar when he sells. Why he chose to sell RvP to manure for 25m when we would have been happy if he’d gone to Juventus for 10m is still bewildering.

We have money, our board have sanctioned top signings, yet Wenger drags us to the level of Monaco before he got sacked.

He is now as useful to us as torn boots are in winter. He has to go. I will gladly hope we lose to Fenerbahce if that speeds up his departure.

From Neil :  stuck in a time capsule watching this
I’m betting you have a massive inbox today.
I wonder why people complain that there is a lot of negativity on here.

After that limp opening game, one can see why, and wonder why there isn’t more.

This guy will be lucky to field a fit team Wednesday.

Wenger is the only one who thinks Szczesny is a top keeper.

If he was used sparingly, he may have been, under a real keeper who could have helped him.

Instead Wenger throws him to the wolves and destroys his confidence once again.

Wenger, and his bunch of Scouts, and I use that term loosely, cannot find any players better than the ones on the pitch,

If they could be found, he, Wenger would sign them.

Laughable, well I can think of 2 keepers better than Szcez, without really trying

Schwarzer, Julio Cesar, much better, streets better, and could have been got at a snip, but no Wenger perseveres just to prove a point

I suggest the scouts for Arsenal be sacked, or better still, sack Wenger.

Did you see the game, it was like watching a game from 6 years ago

The style is the same, the only thing that has changed, is the players nowadays are nowhere near as good

No new things introduced, no innovation, still can’t score from free kicks or corners, still can’t defend

What a complete circus. Insane.

Just a thought.  Could it simply be that Arsene has been gazzumped so frequently in the past few year’s off season that he is waiting to swoop until the 11th hour?  Would seem pragmatic and very Wenger-like to do so.

Your thoughts as always would be of great interest.

From Paul Levy :  gave up my season ticket, as this situation was so predictable.
As I said, Groundhog Day.

Will be back contributing either at the Emirates once Stan has shown he is going to contribute as well and either Laudrup  or Klopp (hopefully) will spend it.

If Wenger signs a new contract now then it might be legal but it would be a bigger heist than Graham’s brown envelopes.

From Ray :  a question about the team
Hi Myles.

I have a few comments and then a question for you:

I am just one of a multitude of Gooners who eventually have come to realise that winning trophies is not a priority at Arsenal. I have followed American sports for years and Stan Kroenke’s teams are not about being champions. To your credit you saw this coming a long time ago.

Last summer we sold Alex Song and did not replace him. Arteta went through the whole season masquerading as a defensive midfielder and to be fair we finished 4th – but no trophy!

This summer we didn’t upgrade and Arteta is now injured. We have a midfield with finesse but no power or bite.

None of our midfielders really tackle, block, intercept, bully or sacrifice a yellow for the team.

Song was not the best but he would walk back into this side!

My point is the ball gets through our midfield far too easily.

Before Yaya Toure starred at Barcelona I thought he was the best I had seen since Patrick Viera and believed he could transform our team. Sometimes great players can compensate for the deficiencies of the manager – (e.g. Adams, Viera, Campbell, Gilberto).

In your opinion Myles, which midfielder(s) would you like Arsene to buy?

Myles says:

I hope he buys nobody.
Or more kids.,
A RECIDIVIST IS A RECIDIVIST.
From Jason Bray: madness!!!!
Myles!!!

Can this madman get any worse?

Says he doesn’t know who to sign whilst our neighbours have done some great business this year! Friends of mine say that you can’t buy trophies, even though in the last 8 years it has worked pretty well in Manchester and down the road at Chelski!

Football has changed! Get Dein and the fat little Russian in!

Cabaye is a pure panic buy, if he really wanted him why didn’t he go in for him 2 months ago!?

And now he is desperately rushing back 5 injured players to play Fenerbache!

It all feels like a dream!

Nobody really has a total clue as to what is going on in that club do they? There are rumours, but nobody really knows if they really have 70 million, if Wenger is scared of spending it or maybe Kroenke is pocketing the lot?

Can’t believe I’m writing this after just 1 league game.

Madness!

Myles says:
They say $tan only takes  out £30,000 a week.
And wants his son  to join the board.
Is that why he bought the club?
Wenger has his ear?
That’s terrible news.
