From Pierre : Schweinsteiger
I actually thought Schweinsteiger would have been a perfect fit at Arsenal.
He has relished and owned the deep-lying midfielder role as he got older.
Could have rotated behind Ramsey and Cazorla and would have been a great role model for Coquelin.
Myles says:
Bayern President Karl Heinz Rummenigge has made it clear that Basti, who is hugely loved and respected, will have a role at Bayern Munich when he stops playing.
He’s a respected leader who’s played for Germany since 2004 under managers Jurgen Klinsmann and Jogi Low.
Starting as a lanky winger who could beat people and cross well from distance, Schweinsteiger matured into a playmaker and anchorman.
He is a big star who played for Bayern under Ottmar Hitzfeld, Felix Magath, Hitzfeld again, Klinsmann, Jupp Henynkes, Louis van Gaal, Heynckes again and Pep Guardiola.
He’s won 8 Bundesliga titles and a Champions League in 2013, so he has seen how big trophies are won and lost.
Schweinsteiger has achieved success in very competitive teams.
Would he have fitted sweetly and happily into the Colney Creche?
Maybe, Pierre.
We will never know. But Basti might have had an opinion.
And Wenger makes sure there is nobody at Colney who will challenge him.
He is on record as not liking confrontations.
Players often say he doesn’t talk that much to them. But every day he talks to them in the media. No other manager does that as much.
Yesterday Wenger said it was a hard decision to sign Petr Cech because his keepers are still young and could improve. He isn’t talking to Arsenal fans. He’s talking to his squad.
