TODAY’S SPORTS HEADLINES confirmed what I said yesterday about Steven Gerrard.
His hot form in the Premiership dissipated in Portugal because his mind was elsewhere.
He was thinking about the £105,000 a week contract Chelsea had offered him.
Gerrard says he was confused.
“I tried my best to forget about it and just concentrate on the tournament, but it was a confusing time,” said young Stevie G.
“I’m just glad this weight is off my shoulders now because I have been confused for the last three or four weeks.”
Beckham and Scholes could not run much in Portugal, and Engerland’s best midfield athlete was sabotaged by an ridiclously impatient and breathtakingly vulgar Russian billionaire who thinks Chelski can buy instant successki.
Yes, Elvis Costello was a scouse-Irish prophet when he sang, “Capital punishment, she’s last year’s model/
They call her Natasha when she looks like Elsie/
I don’t want to go to Chelski.”
