Myles,
I’ve been a regular reader of your column for many years. I think the way you have set your mind on RVP being this arrogant, temperamental, inconsistent and unreliable player is way over the top.
He has had his fair share of injuries and yes he is hot-headed but give me a passionate player any day over 80% of the mediocrity at this club today.
Everytime you mention this player, you’ve had sly digs at him. You’re much bettter than that. We may disagree on him but try to be impartial in your comments next time Robin wins Arsenal a match. He is improving and there are players who develop later than others and Robin will IMO explode if he stays clear of injuries. Think of the lack of service he gets and how he wins matches for Arsenal and you have to give him some credit. He tries and he clearly wants to win games for this club.
Next time you castigate him, think of the recent Arsenal strikers who have had a regular run of games and compare their output in terms of goals and assists to RVP’s output per game. TH14 presumably has a better record but he played in a wonderful team of creators like DB10 and RP7. RVP misses his fair of chances but being injury-prone has been the biggest detriment to his career so far. Talent? Let’s be honest. He’s up there with the best in world football today.
Seb
Myles replies : We have thousands of intelligent readers, which is what I still write this stuff. Recently, I haven’t had much time to write and last night I realised I’d made a big mistake on Monday’s piece.Which some readers have pointed out and which I will correct soon or Soon.
Every Wednesday I switch off my phone and my internet connection until I’ve done enough serious writing for the day. I’m taking a lunch break right now. Maybe I have been unfair to RVP. I’ll try to look at him more objectively over the next few games. I do change my mind on players from time to time.
