From Brendan : Monaco
Fair assessment, Myles.
It means jack but I do think Monaco players were virtually rugby-tackling Arsenal players towards the end and a couple of reds could have been shown. And we had a clear penalty denied.
A horrible way to go out, just thinking what might have been. And to a horrible team, with a dodgy oligarch’s money being laundered on a load of players playing in front of a crowd you’d get at a match in the 4th tier of English football, in a cesspit of a taxhaven filled with stinking rich £$%£$%Q£^s who give nothing to anyone but themselves.
Mind you, Arsenal are from London, and that’s getting that way.
Myles says:
Eton & Harrow now exist to educate the children of Chinese oligarchs.
Anyone for polo?
From Ray : Arsenal board need to show some courage
Hi Myles
It’s not often that managers who are capable of winning at the top level become available. Arsene Wenger has taken the club as far as he can – top 4 in the Premier League & last 16 of the Champions League.
Well done and respect to him for his achievements but he is now talking about winning the Europa League – enough said!!!!!
Jurgen Klopp has had a great run at Dortmund but his time is also up! They are currently 10th but have had an awful season. I thought he would replace Pellegrini at Citeh but this season has been so poor that he is likely out of the running. It would be fantastic if the board were brave enough appoint him next season.
The board should determine the future direction of Arsenal instead of waiting for Wenger to dictate it. Alex Ferguson chose his successor and it was a disaster!
Klopp is a trophy winner, relatively young, fiery, competitive and looking for a new challenge.
The guy has personality, won’t accept mediocrity & doesn’t need bags of cash to win.
Odds are against it but stranger things have happened!
Myles says:
Klopp would probably bring Reus and set the Emirates on fire with fast-moving, exciting football that would make 45,000 people jump to their 4 feet. His teams pass the ball more than six yards and don’t need nine men in the box to produce a tap-in from three yards.
Trouble is, Wenger won’t give anybody else a chance because he’s too selfish, too greedy and too arrogant.
And Ivan Gazidis can’t sack the dictator who interviewed him for his lucrative “CEO” job.
From Jack Morris : it is what it is
Sorry, I don’t agree with your article.
I would say Barca, Bayern, Real and Chelsea are the only teams who are definitely better than us.
Up until this year we’ve always gone out to one of those teams in the past 3 yrs.
This year was different but we messed up. Like Chelsea messed up.
I don’t agree either that nothing changes. We are by far a superior team to what we were in 2012, when in all honesty we fluked 4th due to the Spurs meltdown. Same goes for 2013.
Last year we were magnificent for 80% of the season. This season I’d say a similar figure. The trick now is to turn that into 90%.
You can win the title by being superb 90% of the season. You can’t by being superb only 80% of the season.
We finally have a goalkeeper in goal who doesn’t induce panic in the back four. We have 2 excellent RB’s, 2 excellent LB’s, a very good CB pairing, with Gabriel and Chambers ready to fill in.
We have one good DM (who we’ve stumbled across), and load of excellent MF options. we have a superb centre forward, and a fair few options to play with/instead of him. clearly one good DM isn’t enough, and we need our CB’s to be excellent rather than very good.
Two signings sort that in the summer.
From Ade Oseni : something I have waited to hear a long time
Although I would never sign up to the AKB, this is one of the statements I keep telling friends and to hear you put it in black and white on ANR will probably convince most:
Own up time: I was wrong to say Arsenal are a Top 16 club.
They’re better than that. If you go out in the Round of 16 for five years in a row, that doesn’t make you 14th or 15th or 16th in Europe. Arsenal are probably 9th.
To move from 9th into the top echelon though won’t happen with this manager!
