Mission impossible in Munich? Looks that way to me

Arteta tell us you can win any game 2-0.

Pep Guardiola says his team are the best in the world and the Champions League is more important to them than the Bundesliga.

Of course it is, Pep, because there is no Bundesliga since Dortmund dipped 20 points below you.

The Bayernliga is so uncompetive that your defence is almost never tested.

Historically, Bayern have never lost a Champions League game at home by more than two goals.

However, history is irrelevant.

Any football team can lose any game and the most surprising aspect of the first leg wasn’t that Bayern won 2-0 in London.

And it wasn’t that Szczesny was sent off either.

What stuck out for me was how wobbly Bayern’s back four are.

Individually, they are not great players and they look shaky as a unit.

What exactly is the task tonight?

Simple: score the first goal. Then score two more without reply.

Gibbs is injured, so Vermaelen will be at left back.

If Bayern overload their right flank, attacking Vermaelen with Lahm, Muller and Kroos, Arsenal might struggle. The versatile Lahm provided two assists in the first leg.

I hope Wenger starts Oxlade, whose two-footed bounce and tenacity were so impressive against Everton.

Wenger’s comments about tonight’s young Norwegian referee, who he says is not accustomed to dirty tricks in the top leagues, smacks of desperation.

What Wenger said looked measured and hugely plausible on TV this morning.

But to say that before a game is bad karma.

And bad manners.

PS  Profuse apologies for last night’s glitch, where unedited letters were posted in error, containing the email addresses of two readers.

I was horrified when I saw that today.

Thought it was human error: mine.

But when I opened up the software, I saw that something inexplicable had happened.

Maybe there won’t be any ANR today.

I can only press PUBLISH and see what happens.
