Mayor: OK to Ashburton, but more social housing and better transport needed/ Falconer to give guidan

The proposed new stadium at Ashburton Grove would make a positive contribution to London’s world city role, London mayor Ken Livingstone said.

Responding to the planning application Livingstone said the scheme offers a number of benefits, including a large amount of high-density housing, optimising the development of an inner urban brownfield site and ‘significant’ local community benefits.

But he said the appropriate proportion of affordable housing which should be provided needs further consideration. The funding of necessary public transport improvements should also be looked at, he added.

Lord Falconer, said at a Regeneration Conference in Stoke, that local authorities would be provided with guidance later on this year over the issue of Compulsory Purchase Orders.

Opponents to the Arsenal scheme have recently claimed there is a legal problem with CPOs and the Ashburton scheme.
