Matchday 3 overview :Pochettino’s 1-1 more satisfying than Conte’s 3-3

Can PSG win the Champions League this season?

Can Spurs beat Real Madrid at Wembley on Matchday 4?

Can Chelsea become European Champions again before Antonio Conte goes back to Italy?

Well, the stuttering champs are still top of Group C thanks to a late header by Eden Hazard, who really stepped up to the plate in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Roma last night.

And Roma, with their powerhouse midfield trio, were the better side.

David Luiz was brilliant but Conte took him off when Chelsea were winning. He’d put Chelsea ahead when he joined a slick attack and made a bad pass forward. After centreback Juan Jesus miskicked the ball back to him, Luiz hit a phenomenal 20-yard shot just inside the post.

Then Hazard volleyed in a deflected Morata cross for 2-0 in 37.

But Roma hit back and Kolarov powered past Azpilicueta to score with a low shot, Edin Dzeko buried a left-foot volley from Fazio’s diagonal ball for 2-2,.
When Kolarov hit a killer cross, Dzeko produced in a thumping header that gave Courtois no chance .

Chelsea 2 Roma 3

Bloody hell! Had Chelsea been turned over by by two Manchester City rejects?

Not quite : Pedro, who had replaced David Luiz, crossed from the right and Hazard directed a sweet header down inside the post for 3-3.

In Lisbon, 18-year-old goalkeeper Mile Silvar, a Belgian of Serbian descent, made his debut in a very tight game against Manchester United.

United targeted the lad with crosses and he made a big mistake on Rashford’s inswinging free-kick. Silvar came out and then stepped backwards and should have tipped it over the bar. But he caught the ball and carried it over the line.

That was the only goal of the game and it came in 65 minutes.

After the final whistle Silvar was consoled by Lukaku and Matic, so there is still some old-fashioned sportsmanship left in football.

Bayern Munich thumped Celtic 3-0 and Paris Saint-Germain now lead Group B after hammering Anderlecht 4-0 in Brussels

Maybe Roma will play PSG later on. I’d like to see how they cope with Mbappe, Neymar Cavani and Di Maria, who all scored last night.

In Group H, Real Madrid and Spurs drew 1-1, while and Apoel and Dortmund each earned their first point by drawing 1-1 in Cyprus

Tuesday night was a big test for Spurs and they passed it.

But Real Madrid, reigning champions after battering Juventus 4-1 in Cardiff in May, had enough chances to win the game. Ronaldo hit the post with an early header and Benzema should have buried the rebound.

When attacking right back Serge Aurier whipped in a menacing low cross for Kane, Raphael Varane just got a touch that flew past Costa Rican keeper Keylor Navas for an own-goal.

Usually, Pochettino’s approach is to be proactive, to seize the initiative and he didn’t change that in the Bernabeu. With Dele Alli suspended, he surprised us by playing Llorente up front with Kane

Spurs really miss the power of Alli, Wanyama and Dembele but midfielder Harry Winks blossomed on the big stage and could become a key playmaker in the ongoing Pochettino project.

So far the manager has created a fine team with lots of thrust, and loads of automatic .They like to attack at high speed and play a lot of early passes into the box and their goal came from that.

When Aurier later made one of the most idiotic tackles I’ve seen this season, Ronaldo equalised from the spot and a 1-1 draw was a fair.

Overall, it was two nights of entertaining football.

Matchday 3 gave us some fine battles which told me a lot

Roma could be contenders to win the Champions League. I didn’t know that.

The Tottenham- Real Madrid return game is a match either team can win.

Chelsea are not solid at the moment and have Lukaku and Manchester United coming to Stamford Bridge on Sunday November 5th, the same day that Man City play Arsenal at the Etihad, a 4.15 kick-off on Sky.

I wouldn’t miss that Arsenal game for the world.
