Klopp on MNF : more fun than this week’s Champions League games

I missed the start of the show on Sky.

That was stupid, since I couldn’t wait to see the bearded chatterbox explain himself before a match rather than after one.

Klopperpool are fun to watch because because the team plays as fast as the manager talks.

When I tuned in, Klopp was being asked about his credo.

In particular, a remark he’d made about his high-pressing style.

Klopp had said,”Gegenpressing is the best playmaker.”

On Liverpool’s game against Hull, he said, “We were really calm with the ball in this game.”

On Firmino, an indefatigable ball-winner, he said, “He doesn’t think too much. It’s instinctive. He can play all offensive positions.”

On coaching in general, he said,”It’s about showing them the routes, the spaces we can use.”

Yes, Klopp talks a lot. But he says a lot too.

Liverpool are an attacking team but he doesn’t want his full backs to be facing one-one-one situations at the other end. He’s always gonna ask: “Where’s the midfield player?”

Watching him on Monday Night Football, you could see and hear and feel that Klopp demands the maximum from his squad on a daily basis, challenging every player to improve incrementally, to give more to the team.

He summed up by saying,“I build always round the players, not set ideas. Use what the lads can do.”

That’s why the charismatic Klopp is perfect for Anfield.

Because Liverpool is one of the world’s most important football clubs.

What makes them more important than Arsenal? Their ambitions, their great players, their supporters and their five European Cups.
