Hot Arsenal rumours : Henry and a centreback

On Sunday morning I had two phone calls.

The first said that Arsene Wenger has feelers out for players in one position only : centreback.

This news came from the same source that said he had feelers out for a goalkeeper a few weeks back. He signed a young goalkeeper, Fabianski, after I'd been told by another source that he wanted Akinfeev.

Obviously, Wenger realises his centrebacks are too small. In the Premiership he needs a big stopper who is six foot four. If he signs a big centreback, Senderos could be sold.

Then I got a call from someone who said Thierry Henry is leaving.

This after Arsene Wenger has "guaranteed" that Henry will be at Arsenal next season. Usually, when Arsene says something as emphatic as that, you can take it as gospel.

But the source of this snippet is close to Henry. Within his inner circle.

Some say he's told close friends that he might not be at Arsenal next season.

I don't think Henry will go. But then I didn't think David Dein would go.

Arsene has talked about being able to "create money" by cashing in a few assets.

Few Gooners think Henry will leave, but a growing number wouldn't mind if he did.

If he was sold, what would Arsenal get for him? I've discussed a price with three friends and their estimates are so different from mine that I'm not gonna put a figure on it.

Unless it happens, it's academic, it's hypothetical.

And May is never a big month for transfers anyway.
