Gooners envy Dortmund’s big games

From Zeyad Almashan :

Borussia Dortmund :  WOW !

From Simon : envy

Hi Myles,

Watching the Dortmund v Real game really made me pine for those big knot in the stomach games that Arsenal regularly used to take part in.

Games such as the 1-0 victory at Highbury in ’98 with a single Petit goal that was so full of tension because so much was riding on it. The 2-0 game in’ 02 v West Ham when Cole cleared off the line and Ljungberg was telepathically connecting with every shrewd Bergkamp through ball.

Games that had so much riding on them and the amazing tension and expectation.

The semi final v Villareal in 06 with Lehmann and his penalty save heroics in the last minute.

How I envy teams taking part in big games.

No game this season or in the past few seasons has given me that feeling. A real shame.

From Brendan: Bayern, Borussia

Hi Myles

David Storm’s right.

Bayern are a ruthless machine of a club and will do just anything to gain advantage.

They were rough last night. The whole match was kind of depressing – two goals which shouldn’t have been and a pitch clearly tampered with.. shocking.

Contrast…Dortmund.

I just hope they can do it.. Robert Lewandowski is a much better player than people have given him credit for.

From Brendan : Lewa

Myles

I think with Lewandowski, we’re talking about a guy, who in a team which works well anyway, will be exceptional – and will be a decisive cutting edge.

That’s kind of obvious in a way seeing as he is as much a traditional centre forward as you’ll see these days.So in a team not functioning brilliantly – such as, unfortunately, the Polish national team (most of the time) – Lewa’s influence cannot be as great in games.

He’s not Robin Van Persie, by any means.

But when the other elements are in place, he’ll do the business.

From Brendan : Lewa, one more thing

Robert L. is only 25 years old – he can get better.

And looking at the path of his career, he will.
