From Fritz The Cat : Mike IS right
Hi Myles,
I’ve been reading your blog for a while, I like your melancholic and unadorned writing style, almost Hemingwayesque – although I don’t always agree with what you write.
Mike of “Arsenal still in it but need a revamp” fame is right on the general gist of his email: Arsenal ARE still in it.
They are only two points (2!) off first spot.
If Man U and Chelsea were the Man U and Chelsea of old, there’d be no argument – one of them would win it. They’d probably be already a few points ahead of everyone else.
But that’s the thing – they are NOT the Man U and Chelsea of old. And City are stuttering too.
Arsenal really have the chance to win it this year – not because they are good, but because all contenders are weak, Arsenal-like you could say. Unless a regenerated Liverpool surprises everyone, steams in and wins it. That would be hilarious – I reckon they’ll be in the top 4 come the New Year.
Anyway, thanks for the blog and all the best.
PS: The rumour from Turin is that Morata is going to Real to replace Ronaldo when the latter goes to PSG. Either way, Real has first option on Morata, so he’s either staying in Turin (unlikely) or going to Madrid. I don’t see any chances of him coming to North London.
Myles says:
Gareth Bale will love that! He can’t wait.
I hope Morata does well there, as he was born in Madrid, I think.
I’ve been called manic more often than I’ve been called melancholic.
While I like Hemingway, my favourite American writers are Joe Heller and Don DeLillo, (since Ratner’s Star, which Jan got me in New York as a Valentine’s gift on Feb 14th, 1981).
Since then, Elmore Leonard for his hip humour and James Lee Burke for his poetic prose and conscience.
Personally, I’m sure Wenger will not produce any imaginative solutions in January.
The two-footed Cazorla is the key to the keep-ball style that bores me almost to tears.
That style was carefully designed and maintained to keep Arsenal 3rd or 4th and keep AW in his job.
That’s worked well so far.
Yes, I infuriated readers by saying that two FA Cups is almost nothing.
But let me explain that. The FA Cup is only 6 matches.
It’s not nothing for West Ham or Spurs or Stoke.
But it’s almost nothing for a big budget club as rich as this one
By the way, Fritz, Arsenal do not want to play a dividend to Kroenke because if they did that they’d have to pay a dividend to Usmanov.
And Usmanov would say: No thanks, I don’t want a dividend, I don’t need it.
So they pay Stan for his “consultancy.”
