Tonight was my first trip to Highbury in about ten years – a birthday treat. 30 quid spent by my girlfriend, a great present!

The last time I saw Sunderland play at Highbury it was a dull game, a 1-0 to the Arsenal – and that a Dixon penalty. This time was anything but dull! A fun game, comic in the extreme!

Jeffers missed sitters, scored a good goal and lacked the ability to move.

Kanu tried some fancy things, set up the good goal but lacked the ability to move. Toure at left back?!

A few things stood out:

1) Pires. Sheer class! The best player I have ever seen. He drove Arsenal in the way Beckham drives England. He was probably frustrated at the lack of quality around him tonight…

2) Stepanovs. Sell him Mr Wenger! Sell him now! He is too old to become anything above average. Tonight he was awful. The goals were not – directly – his fault. That said he gave the ball away for the possesion that led to the goals.

3) Taylor. This man wouldn’t bother Seaman for the goalkeeping jersey in a million years.

4) Luzhny. He will *always* be a fringe player. The lack of quality from tonight’s captain is amazing.

5) Svard was excellent! In the first half … he tired in the second and the team collapsed.

6) Wenger. He should see that Svard is tiring – bring him off. He should see that Stepanovs cannot pass, kick or head the ball (though his tackling was good!) – bring him off. Why make us watch this rubbish? Save it for the reserve games!

I will try to go back to Highbury, now the girlfriend is hooked 🙂 It’ll be like 1992 all over again… (or was it 1990, or 1991…?)
